The Dux Logo

Our logo is the Latin word ‘Dux’ nestled within a laurel wreath. Because Romans had to carve their writings on stone or marble, they would express the letter U as V.

Dux –  this Latin word  means leader or commander, especially a military one. By the mid-3rd century AD, the word referred particularly the commander of an expeditionary force. In modern language, some schools in the Europe use the word Dux as a title given to the highest-ranking student in academic or sporting achievement.

The Laurel wreath – In ancient Greece wreaths were awarded to victors, both in athletic competitions, including the ancient Olympics made of wild olive-tree and in poetic meets. In Ancient Rome, they were symbols of martial victory, crowning a successful commander during his triumph.
